3 Realizations At The University Graduation Ceremony Yesterday: To Wake Up Feeling Unfulfilled And Unsatisfied(no it isn’t about the food)
Hey Fam!
There are some mistakes that I had to do in life to understand that this isn’t what I want. Like sticking my finger in an electric switch,
or an MBA.
Sticking your finger in an electric switch might not kill you, but an MBA would.
Let me explain how.
I’m not going to talk about financial cost although that is an important aspect,
but rather the opportunity cost
- Feels like a prison
Time will be dedicated to coursework and you will be time-blocked for at least 2-3 years. I finished mine in 3 1/2 years(damn that's long). Health and Relationships will suffer.
- You need Zeal with Patience
Never have long periods of production as you get locked into things and aren’t able to produce anything. Then The Parkinson's Law kicks in from the front door. Because with long periods of time, the excitement dies and you start losing motivation and then you start reading quotes on discipline so that you can finish what you started to save your money and your face from the shame
- Some things will have to Wait
You would not be able to start your own business or have a side hustle, you can document or journal during this time as I did, I wish I had video journaled myself. (perhaps I should do that while studying for my CISSP Certification)
“You weren’t born to be a cog in the giant industrial machine. You were trained to become a cog. There’s an alternative available to you.”
Seth Godin
This is exactly what an MBA does, trains you to be a cog.
People with degrees and high paying jobs are leaving to be workhorses in an industry as soon as they realize that this hustle culture is nothing but a lie and to start something of their own like content creation will give them more satisfaction
Examples of such People:
Ali Abdaal from Doctor
Vanessa Lau from a Fortune 500 Company
Dami Lee from being an Architect
Dickie Bush from Wall Street
Is my MBA better than their professions?
What if this MBA was the last thing that you did, Would you be proud of yourself? No, right, then find things to do that make you happy.
and it takes nothing to start as a content creator. it gives you a digital life and an external validation.
My next steps are a CISSP and a PMP, perhaps I'll finish them, perhaps not coz that won't make me happy. I want to do content creation so badly and I'm psyched about it. Perhaps it's time to take the leap of hope and jump all in and test the new waters with both my feet. Starting something can educate you more than a degree ever can.
"You can never be overdressed or overeducated"
Oscar Wilde
